Why Do Suckerfish Die

What is the most important of the twentieth century?

What is the most important of the twentieth century?
Carmen, Lima

Dear Carmen, good question. There are some art historians they do not like to answer such questions because art is not a science. There are many variables to consider in deciding which is the most important in a defined time. I can tell you a play and another historian can tell you other work. But since you asked me, I will gladly I will answer, in my opinion.

In the twentieth century there were several works that have impressed the art world. I am going to mention chronologically. Demoiselles d'Avignon by Pablo Picasso, 1907. Is from the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. With this painting Picasso broke 600 years of use of perspective, which began in the Renaissance, making this work flat, two-dimensional instead of making three-dimensional, as it was from the fifteenth century. Another important thing in this picture is that Picasso finished with realistic representation. The 3 faces of the women on the left are based on the time Iberian wrists and 2 on the right are based on African dolls Picasso saw in the Trocadero Museum in Paris (known today as the Museum of Man.) When Matisse saw this work before he left the audience said, "This box is spitting fire," because nobody had ever painted before so everything was new. This work is also important because it initiates the development of cubism and early abstract art. Although the work has little aesthetic is a very important work because it broke roads to other art movements.

Source (urinary) 1917, a work of Marcel Duchamp, was a urinal placed side appeared to be a source of a garden. This work is what Duchamp called a "ready-made" (prefabricated) and was an object that Duchamp bought and did nothing and presented it as his work. Duchamp was the first artist to do that. Duchamp's work broke with the tradition that the artist is he who does the work and created the anti-art that anyone can be an artist. Power was brought to an art exhibition and was rejected because it was originally a urinal, was controversial and inappropriate for the patterns of society. Now is one of the major works of the twentieth century. To be good, sometimes one has to open new paths. His work also served as the beginning of art movements, Dada, surrealism and conceptual art. The original source book signed by him was lost and now there are only some replicas commissioned by Duchamp in various museums.

Guernica, 1937 Pablo Picasso, measures 349x776 cm. It is found in the Reina Sofia in Madrid. This work was painted as a claim to the bombing of Guernica by the Germans and Italians, during the English civil war. This book is so big in size that the observer has to be walking from one side to another, from far and near for the work, to appreciate it because not really a picture, because it is framed, is a mural. It was painted in black and white to give more emphasis to the colors, black represents death, Satan, sin, sorrow, pain, and the white represents peace, innocence and purity. It was painted in black and white because the images that Picasso saw in the newspaper and he wanted to represent something like the newspaper. With those colors also increases the drama. Guernica is one of the few works by Picasso with narrative. This work represents the violence, death, brutality, suffering and distress for the death of innocent civilians in the hands of the Germans. Although it was painted in a realistic way you get to move and shake. In addition, Picasso used a lot of symbolism in this work. Within the horse is a skull and the head of a bull are also a number of harlequins and crying in symbolic form. The soldier is not dead, is dying in front of us, has an open mouth, tightly closed fist on the sword and has an open hand, refuses to die. In order to symbolism is the maximum. The work is the integration of internal and external because the left is a stable, to symbolize the birthplace of Jesus Christ, while the right is the exterior. The eye-shaped lamp symbolizes the eye of God sees all and, moreover, there is a triangle symbolizing the Trinity. Guernica is now considered a monumental status as a reminder of the tragedy of war and a symbol against the war. A German asked Picasso once, did you paint it? No, he said, you painted it. To show you how deep was Picasso. I could talk much more about this work, but I want to make the very long answer.

Carmen In summary, the three works, the only dramatic emotion is Guernica. The only one that gets expensive for peace, for humanity's Guernica. Art is something beautiful with aesthetics, art can give a message to the world, art can be a protest, art is a powerful communication tool and Picasso does all that with Guernica. So I can say that for me, Guernica is the most important of the twentieth century.

Carmen Thanks for your question. Augusto

What makes a work worth more than another?

What makes a work worth more than other cash?
Jorge Lima

artists actually sold his paintings size. The works do not cost for aesthetic merit, if not by size in the galleries. All the works of one meter by one meter cost the same, all the works of one meter by two meters have another higher price and so on. For example here I am hyper artist prices (also called photo-realistic) Giancarlo Vitor (photos of their works Hostel, Focus, Box, Brick ) and see which is sold by size.

1.5 mts x 1.2 mts $ 3,500

1.5 mts x 1.5 mts $ 4,000

1.5 mts x 2.0 mts $ 5,000

2.8 mts x 0.9 mts $ 6,000

But when sold works by renowned artists in the homes of New York auction, Christie's and Sotheby's, particular, some work can get higher prices for their aesthetic beauty. Another factor that may affect the price if someone buys a book and sell it after 15 years, and this work is typical of the artist and has a lot of aesthetic value. In that case, its value is greater than that of other less aesthetic value and if the work is not typical of the artist, and are the same size.

To continue, if there are two works of the same dimensions, one costs more than the other and are of different artists, that means the most expensive work of an artist is better known, more reputable.

Jorge, in the case of the picture is different, the works are worth by size, if not production cost, effort, research time, trouble and better aesthetics. If a photographer is going to Europe to take photos and is there for a month, your work will not cost the same as if he had gone to the river near their town. It also influences the degree of recognition of an artist, like the painter when compared to two photographs of the same size and is more expensive.

Jorge Thanks for your question, I hope my answer is to your liking. Augusto

How To Make A Recommendation Letter For Community

commercial art versus art plastic Why

As enhances the beauty and harmony that creates a piece that, though not authenticated, it produces a great visual pleasure and fits perfectly into our room, library, office, versus, have a piece that does not produce the same effect, although unique and authentic. Per piece 'does not authenticate' I do not necessarily mean pieces of little economic value, but usually made by self-taught, non-formal artistic training and no more. Could the art called 'commercial' to get to thrill more than the 'art school'? I understand that there is no universal answer to this concern and that each person has their own interpretation but I would like to know your opinion.
Paco, Lima

Dear Paco, good question. The level of training of a artist determines the kind of work he does. There are artists who have studied fine arts and commercial art and there are self-learners who make works of visual art or visual art, which you call "academic art. The most famous self-taught that there is Henry Rousseau. In Peru we have artists such as José Carlos Martinat, making avant-garde art, Christian art Bendayan Pop artist, and Susan Torres, who makes conceptual art, political art and pop art, who had no formal training, however, make it work arts and are considered good performers. The largest self-taught artist from Peru may have been Mario Urteaga.

commercial works are pictures landscapes, still lifes or abstract that the main reason why they were made is to decorate. The main function of a work of art is to give an emotion, based on creativity. The price of commercial art in many cases is more expensive than the plastic arts, because there are commercial galleries selling paintings at $ 3,000 U.S. and a lower price you can buy a good work of an artist. Another difference is that the price of a work of art rises over time. An emerging artist becomes recognized and the price of his works up many times more than it did originally, which is not about commercial art. To give an example Tilsa Tsuchiya (photo, The Myth of Red Warrior) sold their works at $ 4.000 U.S. now his works are sold at U.S. $ 120.000 in the auction houses of New York. As a general rule, the price of a regular artist triples in 15 years. If an artist is to be recognized, can be multiplied by 30 in 20 years. In the end, the early purchase of works by a good artist is a very good investment. I think there

commercial art if you can get to thrill, but the plastic art to make you surprise and sometimes inexplicable emotion. In addition, it was found that the visual art takes the stress, you can work harder and less tiring. Another difference between commercial art and fine art is that art gives plastic personality to the environment, but commercial art and decorating just another object, like a lamp or table. It is bad enough commercial work at home, buy what you like, you can move more than the fine arts, that's no problem, a matter of taste. However, I believe that before a purchase a work is favorable to go to museums, galleries and see what's there to appreciate the differences. The beauty and harmony that takes the values \u200b\u200bthe work and if you are happy with commercial work, keep buying. Thanks for your question Paco, I hope I have clarified your concerns with my answer. Augusto

Drinking Vinegar To Get Rid Of Baby

Botero is so popular?

Why Botero is famous Latin American artist and his subjects because he does so round and heavy?
Diana, Oshawa, Ontario

Diana, for an artist to be famous, the artist has to be known in the art infrastructure, which are the museums, galleries, art critics, monographs, journals and the public general. If the artist is known only from the art infrastructure as Guillermo Kuitca, Jac Lernia and Liliana Porter and are not well known by people in general then he or she can not have the status of being as famous / as.

Botero is recognized and respected as creative, innovative art infrastructure and the public, because his art is universal and can be understood by all. Leonardo da Vinci said "A painter is not admirable, if not universal." Botero's work is pleasant to see, is admired and understood, so it is universal. In this time installations, video art and conceptual art is what's hot and that's what artists are looking to be famous and recognized in art circles and institutions. But artists who do this kind of art have become famous in art circles only and are unknown by most people. The reason is not known in society is because their works can not be read by most people. Botero has had his bronze sculptures in public places and parks in New York, Milan, Venice, Lisbon, Rome, Tokyo, Singapore, Washington DC, Madrid, Chicago, Los Angeles, Montreal and many other cities worldwide. This proves that Botero is a famous artist.

To answer the second part of your question, because Botero makes his subject so round and heavy. This is a very important question in art. Why would an artist works this way or this other way? A first artist is a creator, not an imitator. Botero makes his Rubenesque figures to be different from other artists. If Botero painted his figures as he sees them, then he copying would not be creating something new. Each artist has to create his own visual language and visual language of it is creating subjects round, heavy and soft lines. Now we are so familiar with his work, which do not have to read the label on the museum, we know that did it.

Diana Thank you for your question and hope you're satisfied with my answer. Augusto
